Mangalore, February 7, 2010 : The over bridge near Birkanakatte Kaikamba junction which was under construction collapsed on Saturday morning at 8.45 and 2 labourers sustained minor injuries and were admitted to a private hospital.

Sahana Biswas (27) and his brother Sapan Biswas (20) of West-Bengal were the injured. The over bridge collapsed within few minutes the centering work was started where 5-6 labourers were working.

It is said that the negligence of crane operator is the reason for this incident. When crane operator was arranging the plates to centering, the hook of crane slipped and centering fell down through support pillar, said an officer of National Highway Authority.

This is second incidence of National Highway Authority over bridge collapse in the construction stage. Long before 3 labourers were injured due to over bridge collapse near B C Road, Bantwal.
